“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

~Thornton Wilder

LIFE IS A GIFT

When you woke up this morning, what was your first thought? Did you construct your do to list, curse your alarm clock, experience anxiety about what the day may bring?

-Or-

Did you greet the day with an open heart and an expression of gratitude for all you’ve been given?

Gratitude is the feeling evoked in us in response to the kindness of others.  Gratitude is also a practice.

Several studies have shown the psychological benefits of gratitude.  (UC Davis, Dimensions and Perspectives of Gratitude). Choosing to recognize all that you are blessed with allows you to shift from a sometimes habitual and often times distressing focus on what’s wrong to a gracious experiencing of what’s right.

Gratitude may come naturally when things are going well. But the real beauty lies in its ability to shift your perspective when things are not well.

Identify something you are grateful for in this moment.  Feel the joy and fully appreciate its impact on your life.

Life is a gift.

RECIPE FOR GRATITUDE

Begin a daily gratitude practice.  In the morning or in the evening (or both), make a list of 5 things you are grateful to have in your life.  Some days will be easier than others and I encourage you not to get in the habit of listing the same 5 items each day.  Challenge yourself to identify all the things you may have begun to take for granted.

I was inspired by this article and wanted to share it with you.
